BROOKLYN BOOK FAIR

The Brooklyn Bookfair

On Friday, 9/20/19 Joan attended an open house for the Brooklyn Book Fair
at the Greenlight Bookstore.  It was awesome.   The area was like
a mini-Greenwich Village in Brooklyn.  My husband and I had dinner in a
wonderful Turkish restaurant. People in the bookstore bent over backwards
to help  us with book selections.

On Saturday, 9/21/19 Joan's book, Jamie is Autistic: Learning in a Special Way was
for sale at the BBF.  I hope Jamie finds its way into many hands eager to learn
more about Autistic children.  They are truly special. I know. I teach them and
ESL too.

On Sunday, 9/22/19 (see Photo), Joan was at the Romance Writers of America
booth to talk about and sell her contemporary romance, Secret Desires by J. L. Regen.

The Sea Women of South Korea

For more than 1,700 years, haenyeo have been diving in the sea, harvesting shellfish and seaweed. In the Korean province of Jeju, sea women dive up to ten meters holding their breath for over two minutes, with no breathing equipment.  The profession is practiced today by a majority of women in their 60s and older, who dive all year round, wearing old-fashioned headlight-shaped scuba masks. With  wrinkled faces and grey hair they are likely be the last generation of haenyeo. These women have been often described as sea warriors, risking their lives scouring the ocean floor.
